Dear readers… No, I would rather say, friends…
Dear friends,
Clyde, here. The strange, creaky mind behind Narrativ.
As the sun falls on 2021, and the shadow of midwinter creeps over us (well, for those of us in the northern hemisphere at least), I hope your Christmas lights are glowing, I hope your souls are lit, and I hope there is warmth wherever you are. And for those of you in warmer climes, I hope you’re stretching those legs, enjoy the sunshine and sipping on something chilled.
Before we go any further, I want to let you know that Narrativ will be crawling under the blankets for the festive season. Yesterday, the last narrativ of the year was published. If you haven’t had a chance to meet the new addition to our murky cast of characters, you can meet Solomon Iron here. But don’t worry. Whilst Narrativ curls up beneath the duvets, the wheels will turn, the pen will be inked, the paper blotted and stories conjured. Narrativ will resume with its regular publishing schedule from January 6. I know, that some weeks away, and we will miss you, but I hope that you will once again join us when we return.
Other than that, I just wanted to thank each and everyone of you for supporting Narrativ, for reading, for sharing and for returning each week. The past year has been a journey, and as I look back at 2021, I am grateful and proud of the writing Narrativ has been able to offer a voice to. More importantly though, thank you to those of you (you know who you are), who have really breathed life into each story, by giving your time to read them. By doing so, you have made them real. You have made them something other than just an idea bubbling in the cauldron of my imagination.
It’s been a fulfilling process, but it is a process nonetheless. And sometimes it can be a stubborn and difficult adversary. So, if you appreciate the narrativs, the characters, and the miniseries, please consider becoming a paid subscriber.
I know it’s not feasible for everyone, but if you’re a regular reader, or even a semi-regular one, your support will go a long way towards keeping the coffee tin full, and making it possible for me to continue this work.
During the festive season, Narrativ will be offering a 25% discount on all paid subscriptions, between now and January 5. That’s just 3.75€ per month, or 29.99€ for an annual subscription.
That’s it for now. Until then, the door closes. But not completely. If you approach softly, if you look through the gap, you’ll see the banquet hall. The lights are turned down low. Candelabra illuminate the feast table. The table is festooned with the gothic, the weird and the speculative. They shimmer, plump and delicious, upon their platters. There are people seated, but you cannot see their faces. The lights are turned down low. They are hidden behind masks of shadow. But they are waiting, knives in hand. Napkins unfurled. The lights are turned down low, and from over your shoulder, you feel a breath. A cold voice whispers in your ear, “We’re waiting for you.”
And, we hope you join us…
What’s lurking in the shadows?
